As the project lead at AWW I have been involved from conception throughout the life of the project.
Originally commissioned by developer Acorn, AWW was novated to Contractor Speller Metcalfe for the construction phase.
Brandon Yard, Bristol Floating Harbour Former Gasworks Regeneration
The project involves for the restoration and conversation of two Grade II listed buildings as well as a new build on a former industrial site situated by the Bristol Floating Harbour opposite the SS Great Britain.
This residential development comprises 58 one, two and three bedroom apartments across three buildings.
The listed structures onsite today, Purifier House, Engine House and the Boundary Wall along Gasworks Lane and Lime Kiln Road, were constructed some 200 years ago, in the early part of the 19th century.
Derelict for over 40 years, the buildings were in desperate need of rescuing from final dilapidation and collapse.
Challenges for the design and construction team included having to stabilise and secure the structures ready for the piling phase, carefully dismantling and reconstructing part of the historical fabric.
Additional constraints on the design included providing flood protection measures for the listed structures as well as the new build.
